Nunacor Development Corporation is soliciting Expressions of Interest for Artwork to be displayed at our new restaurant, Mamattuk. Mamattuk will be extremely dynamic in its offerings, serving guests as a restaurant, coffee bar, and lounge throughout the day, celebrating Labrador with elevated comfort food featuring local ingredients.

Located next to the Royal Inn + Suites, Mamattuk will be a warm and inclusive social hub with an engaging atmosphere. Pulling inspiration from the land, people, and culture, the restaurant will combine local charm and world-class hospitality.

Overview of Project:

Mamattuk Food Inc. operating as Mamattuk Restaurant is a 100% Indigenous-owned business expected to open late Fall 2023.

We plan to display thirteen (13) pieces of artwork throughout the restaurant, (see Appendix A for placement and Appendix B for restaurant design mood board):

Group 1: Main dining room + PDR (private dining room): six (6) pieces size 1375mm x 1525mm

Group 2: Main dining room: three (3) pieces size 375mm x 420mm

Group 3: Bathroom corridor: two (2) pieces size 920mm x 1220mm

Group 4: Kitchen pass: two (2) 630mm x 685mm

The above noted sizing is recommended sizing; however, alternatives may be considered. Nunacor reserves the right to purchase individual pieces from a variety of artists.

Artists may submit an EOI for all 13 pieces or submit EOIs for specific groups as noted above.

The artwork should reflect Inuit culture, lifestyle, or the landscapes of NunatuKavut and/or Labrador. The style of artwork is the artist’s choice and can be textiles, furs, sealskin, fabric, photography, painting, or framed work.  The artwork should be consistent in appearance, style and medium and work well together as a collection.

The artwork must be delivered to the Nunacor office at 169 Hamilton River Road, Happy Valley-Goose Bay no later than October 27, 2023. Artist is responsible for the delivery.

Eligibility:

Open to artists living in or originally from Labrador.

Expression of Interest Requirements:                                         

Priority will be given to those who meet all Eligibility Criteria as set out below; however, other submissions may be considered.

EOIs must include:

  • Artist’s name, address, phone number and email address
  • Artist’s biography
  • A written expression of interest outlining your planned concept and materials to be used
  • Artist’s portfolio (up to 10 images of past work)
  • A story(s) or theme(s) for your art submission
  • Detailed pricing of submission, as well as pricing for individual pieces
