Tourism and Culture Business Advisor – NunatuKavut Business Centre

JOB DESCRIPTION – TOURISM & CULTURE BUSINESS ADVISOR  
Reports to the Manager – NunatuKavut Business Centre.

SUMMARY
The NunatuKavut Business Centre (“NBC”) is a knowledgeable and professional team whose goal is to grow NunatuKavut Inuit businesses, one entrepreneur at a time. As part of this team, the Tourism & Culture Business Advisor is responsible for providing NunatuKavut entrepreneurs with the best programs and services to ensure success in their business ventures. Collaboration with NunatuKavut Community Council (“NCC”) and industry associations to support entrepreneurship is a key aspect of this role. The Tourism & Culture Business Advisor supports NunatuKavut entrepreneurs with business counselling, quality assurance planning, and referral to services and programs to create quality visitor experiences that will increase tourism visitation to the NunatuKavut territory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with NCC’s Department of Research, Education and Culture and other relevant departments to ensure the promotion of authentic culture-based tourism development.
  • Work with new and existing tourism operators in the NunatuKavut territory to develop authentic, engaging and personalized visitor experiences focused on connection with people and places of NunatuKavut.
  • Coordination of networking opportunities and information sessions for tourism stakeholders in NunatuKavut.
  • Assist NunatuKavut operators with Tourism Destination Management System (TDMS) online content listings.
  • Prepare for and attend consumer, media and trade shows.
  • Represent the NBC and NCC on various levels of tourism initiatives.
  • Assist clients as per approved NBC Flowcharts (Business Counselling, Funding Programs, NunatuKavut Registered Indigenous Businesses).
  • Assists with preparation of contracts with relevant funding for the NBC.
  • Monitors statistics and ensures accuracy of key indicators and targets as per contract stipulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly/annual reports for the NBC.
  • Promotes programs and services of the NBC.
  • Researches, analyzes, and monitors labor market data in NunatuKavut traditional territory.
  • Promotes entrepreneurship to the Nunacor Development Corporation and NCC membership.
  • Assists with planning and organizing workshops/training for the NBC.
  • Provides other diverse business development advice and support for the Nunacor Development Corporation and its subsidiary companies.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Successfully completed post-secondary education in business administration, human resource development, sociology or similar field of study; or three to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and propose solutions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business plans, project agreements, financial statements, technical reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, government agencies, or members of the business community and the NCC membership.
  • Ability to write proposals, progress reports and letters that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to prepare marketing materials.

This position will be stationed at 32-34 Lodge Bay Road in Mary’s Harbour, with requirements for time to be spent at the Nunacor Development Corporation Head Office in Happy Valley – Goose Bay, as well as throughout NunatuKavut communities.
